The Domination Of Checks On Various Forms Of Art

It’s difficult to realize that anyone could possibly be unfamiliar with the checkered pattern. It’s generally known as the checks that contain the black and white graphic that resembles a checkerboard. There are many items around us that we find like this. For instance a pianoforte, adjacent to a piano bench or piano benches along with music sheet cabinet shows this pattern in its keys.

Whether they are the pieces of clothing including; footwear, handbags or other smaller accessories such as wrist bands wallets etc., a checkered pattern is not difficult to come across. It has dominated the fashion world since the previous three decades. Besides, it has also been commonly taken up by various types of music. Besides, you will experience an everlasting presence of this pattern in various forms of art, literature alongwith other items found in popular cultures. This pattern left a great impact in the late 1970’s when a music form arose from England. This form of music was mainly a blend of punk, ska and pop music. The blend was famously known as ‘2 Tone’. This was the phrase that was coined by a musician called Jerry Dammers. It was Dammers who established the checkered pattern image as a symbol for the 2 tone movement which was known as the Walt Jabsco logo.

Apart from this, the black and white checkered pattern perfectly symbolized racial unity and brotherhood. With the advent of 1980’s, a latest fashion overwhelmed the decade, in which checks were accommodated in with bold graphics alongwith light colors. This time it reached wide across to decorate everything from skateboards to socks alongwith suspenders. In the later part of 80’s and early 90’s, the checkered pattern was replaced by the sharp graphic prints. However, it was only a matter of time when famous bands such as “No Doubt” brought music again into the new era and so the checks became a talk of the town once again.

This is not all, as the musicians of the upcoming millennium, including Avril Lavigne, are accountable for bringing the checkered trend back into the mainstream. Their fashion line boasts a checkered print through shorts, hoodies, ties alongwith shirts. Besides, a retail outlet, Hot Topic, sells many checkered products such as earrings, sunglasses, etc. Talking about the art field, you will find that checkered signs are associated with the works of graphic artist MC Escher. He was the one who illustrated checkered bits in his work. One of his famous work of art is Day and Night. Furthermore, even literature is not distant to this checkered pattern. It has symbolized Lewis Carrol’s most famous book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, in which chess pieces have contributed a main role in the story.

You can even find this pattern in famous cultures. For instance, New York City cabs have the checkered designs and not to leave the race car flags are also checkered. This pattern still remains to be an essential trend of our lives which seems difficult to forgo.
