A Look At Video Game Addictions
An addictive personality disorder may be the main reason for addiction to games. Most people think video gaming addiction is not bad, but the result of this kind of addiction can be hazardous. One factor that contributes to the addiction may be the promise of a reward at the end of each game or level.
If we have to compare video gaming addictions to other addictions, we can say that it is most similar to gambling. Gambling addicts don’t stop until they get a win, like a gamer doesn’t stop until he reaches a level or kills the enemy. Gambling and gaming addicts share this trait of wanting something and playing for as long as it takes to get it. Once the need for reward is satisfied, the addict wants more.
What are the signs that a person is addicted to video games? It’s simple, if a person cannot stay away from a game, he may be a gaming addict. As with other addictions, video gaming can become a problem if a person feels that he should disregard everything else in order to focus on his game. It’s true that gamers hole themselves up for days just to finish a game. Insomnia and other sleep disorders may arise from this habit. Time can really fly by as the gamer is concentrating on finishing his games one by one. More often than not, the games take precedence over family or friendships. The stereotypical gaming addict usually has no friends.
Because most people are not threatened by gaming addicts, they feel no need to set up a rehabilitation center for these people. One way to beat this is to go on vacation, preferably in a place with not many electronics. What is needed is a change of perspective and lifestyle. A gaming addict may have become a burden to some people without realizing it, so he has to snap out of it fast.
Finally, video gaming addictions can happen to any gamers so you have to be aware of the dangers the addictions brings.
