Future Prospects of Contemporary Art in This Day and Age
Art can be the only way to be truly immortal as many famous artists have proved. The art pioneers of the world have become the bench mark for many of the works that subsequent artists have come up with. Because art is highly subjective, so many debates have arisen regarding what we can classify as modern or contemporary art. The term contemporary art is said to have originated as a movement during the post-war era. Artworks that have arisen from the post-war art movement are considered a part of contemporary art.
The Origins of American Abstraction
Abstract expression gained ground after the war era. One can say that abstraction was a way for the artists to prove something, or to start anew after a tumultuous time of repression. It is during this time that New York became a venue for artists to show what they can do. California contemporary art center has several great abstractions from this era.
Looking at the list of contemporary artists that have made it in the past, one can see a pattern. Because art was already defined in a way (from the European artists of old), critics have become somewhat jaded when contemporary art came around. Sometimes, it takes one exhibition to make or break a contemporary artist. The artworks that become noticed are usually those that bring a new form into the plate. Contemporary art should be something that is unique even to a jaded eye.
In a way, we can say that the artistic community gave birth to and has nurtured the growth of modern art. If a piece that has been created during the post-war era has been recognized by early critics, it usually becomes one of the benchmarks for future contemporary artists. Because most contemporary artists treat their art as self-expression, the significance of the acclaim is even more pronounced.
The Future of Modern Artists
Nowadays, so many struggling artists are still at it because art is a passion for them. Unfortunately, the more art evolves, the more picky the art world is when it comes to selecting heroes and idols. Usually, the critics would either rave or nitpick about the technique used, as well as the materials. Artists now are often subjected to a greater amount of pressure because of the greatness of those who came before them. Modern artists who can find their own place in the art world and consistently adhere to their own unique style are usually the ones that make it.
